Project updates
Official v2.0.0 release. No changes from v2.0.0-pre.0.
- Changes
- Fix errant return from Nerves.Runtime.reboot when using guarded reboots. This resulted in code running after the reboot call that wasn’t expected to have been run.
- Simplify and harden power off and reboot for edge cases
This is a patch update to v1.25.0.
The erlinit update will start saving and restoring random number seeds to /root/seedrng. Failures are logged, but ignored.

- pppd 2.5.0 - fixes a build issue with pppd 2.4.9 and GCC 13
This release bumps GCC from 12.2 to 13.2 and adopts the new version scheme that mirrors GCC versions.
Changes
- Re-add static toolchain option since LTO no longer gets turned off when it’s enabled.
- Build a multilib toolchain for RISC-V glibc builds to support both 32-bit and 64-bit, soft and hard float compilation

- Linux 5.4 headers except for RISC-V. RISC-V uses Linux 5.15 headers.

- Fix minor pagination issues with viewer
- Adjust boot start search string to work with more Nerves systems
- Changes
- Label log messages coming from syslog and the kernel ringbuffer as $syslog and $kmsg. These are in the “application” field. This helps when log messages by application since these used to be nil.
- New features
- Save and restore random number seeds with SeedRNG. This saves seeds to /root/seedrng since that’s a persisted, writable location on Nerves. If not using Nerves, this location can be changed at compile-time using LOCALSTATEDIR.

Nerves Meetup online!
The next event happens on the 29th of November (30th for me). I said October last time. Which was weird because that would have been in the past.

NervesConf is returning!
Todd Resudek has announced that NervesConf will return and happen in connection with Gig City Elixir on the 9th of May in year of 2024. Quite exciting!
And also announced on the recently revived Nerves Project account on Fosstodon.
Code BEAM Europe in Berlin is done and dusted
Videos from Code BEAM Europe in Berlin have started to show up. So far neither of the two Nerves-related talks but I saw and enjoyed both Chris Grainger's and Randall Thomas' talks and they are already on the playlist.

Supporting the Nerves project
We want to encourage everyone to contribute in whatever way works for them. Here are some ways we currently recommend:
- Write or port a new hardware library and include it in the Elixir Circuits collection.
- Give money to the project via Open Collective.
- Get in touch about taking over maintenance duties for some libraries, we might be able to provide you hardware.
- Apply for an EEF stipend on something Nerves-related and build it. We can help if you have questions about this.
- Send corrections or improvements for documentation wherever it fails to help you.
- Write about Nerves, give talks about Nerves. Make videos about Nerves. It is all good.
