Official project updates
This release has two potentially breaking changes:
- Elixir 1.11 is now the minimum supported Elixir version.
- VintageNet.PropertyTable has been extracted to its own library and is now just PropertyTable. Most users did not use VintageNet.PropertyTable directly, but if you did, you’ll need to update the references.
- Changed
- Extract VintageNet.PropertyTable to its own library. Note that many improvements were made to PropertyTable including renaming functions for consistency and changing the events. Code was added to VintageNet to hide these changes for now. Longer term, we’ll be making things more consistent, but the hope is that the PropertyTable changes are transparent to VintageNet users in this release.
- Support specifying absolute paths to network configuration commands. While this is not preferred, it’s useful in some scenarios.
- Redact more kinds of secrets in VintageNet.info
- QMI.WirelessData.modify_profile_settings/3 function
- Can pass 3GPP profile index to QMI.WirelessData.start_network_interface/2
- :roaming_preference option to QMI.NetworkAccess.set_system_selection_preference/2
- QMI.Codec.WirelessData.modify_profile_settings/2 function
- QMI.Codec.WirelessData.profile_setting() type
- QMI.Codec.WirelessData.profile_type() type
- :profile_3gpp_index option QMI.Codec.WirelessData.start_network_interface_opt() type
- Add support for :roaming_allowed? field in a service provider configuration to allow or disallow roaming when using the configured service provider.
Extract system logging from nerves_runtime.
- Updates
- Require Elixir 1.11 and remove all syslog-to-Elixir log level conversion code since Elixir accepts all of the syslog levels now.
- Remove the :severity field from log messages since it’s redundant now. It’s unknown if this field was actually used.
Community updates
SparkMeter ships with Nerves
A community member working with the product shouted about it in the Elixir #nerves Slack. This product is using Nerves.

Underjord.pre_hack/1 for Code BEAM in Stockholm 2022
As an entirely too enthusiastic participant in the Elixir ecosystem I wanted to do something for folks attending Code BEAM in Stockholm where me and my team will be. Frank Hunleth is fortunately joining us. I'll bring some Phoenix know-how and he'll bring all the Nerves skills.
Together we cause shenanigans. If you are planning on attending Code BEAM, can be there a full day early and want to make friends and get ready for the conference in style, check out our event. Should be a good time!

Supporting the Nerves project
We want to encourage everyone to contribute in whatever way works for them. Here are some ways we currently recommend:
- Write or port a new hardware library and include it in the Elixir Circuits collection.
- Give money to the project via Open Collective.
- Get in touch about taking over maintenance duties for some libraries, we might be able to provide you hardware.
- Apply for an EEF stipend on something Nerves-related and build it. We can help if you have questions about this.
- Send corrections or improvements for documentation wherever it fails to help you.
- Write about Nerves, give talks about Nerves. Make videos about Nerves. It is all good.
